Introduction to the Wilmington Campus Library

Each library has a collection that supports the technologies taught at that campus site. The combined holdings of Stanton/Wilmington include over 50,000 books, over 500 periodicals, and numerous pamphlets and audiovisual items. The collections of all four Delaware Tech campus libraries are listed on the Delaware Library Catalog. In addition, there are online indices and full-text databases. Library staff are available to assist students in using these and other library resources.

The Wilmington Campus Library has two sections: the Main Library, which houses most of the library's collections, and the Audiovisual Library and Education Center, which contains the education books, the Curriculum Collection, Children's Collection, and all audiovisual materials.

Library Privileges

Library privileges are available to all persons who are currently enrolled in or employed by Delaware Technical & Community College. On visiting any campus library, and upon presentation of a current Delaware Tech ID card, students, staff and faculty are entitled to use the collection, services and facilities. A delivery service for library materials is provided among the campuses. Books and other items from another campus library may be requested, picked up, and returned at the patron's home campus library. When a patron borrows items from another campus library, he or she is bound by the same requirements as the patrons of the supplying campus, including payment for lost, damaged, or overdue materials. The library provides interlibrary loan of books and articles from other institutions to our students, staff and faculty. Finally, students, staff, and faculty may have borrowing privileges at other Delaware academic institutions through their Delaware Tech ID card.

User Registration

Students, faculty, and staff from Delaware Tech campuses should present current photo ID cards from their respective campuses in order to register at that campus's library. A library barcode will be attached once registration at the library has been completed. Students from area colleges may have borrowing privileges. Please check with library staff for details. Persons who live or work in Delaware may register with either the Stanton or the Wilmington library as community resident borrowers. Community resident borrowers must be 18 or older and must present appropriate identification.

Delaware Library Catalog

The Delaware Library Catalog, is a collegewide Web-based online catalog listing books, periodical titles, audiovisual items, and pamphlets in the libraries of Delaware Tech. Items are listed by title, author, subject and keyword. The libraries use Library of Congress subject headings and call numbers. Information from the catalog may be printed for a charge of 10 cents per page.

Loan Periods

Renewals are limited to one renewal period only. Renewals may be made in person or by telephone. Please have the specific titles and your ID card barcode ready.

Charges

Fines:

Lost and mutilated materials must be paid for at the rate of replacement, plus $10.00 handling charge per item for cataloged items.
Semester registration will not be allowed until all library obligations have been met.

Periodical Indices and Online Databases

Library patrons have access to a variety of periodical indices, both print and online, which support the academic programs offered by the campus. The purpose of indices and databases is to list by subject articles in journals, magazines or newspapers. In some databases the full text of the articles are available online and may be printed at 10 cents per page. In other databases or indices only a citation or abstract is provided. The magazines or journals may be available on the library's shelves. Check for these titles in the Stanton/Wilmington Holdings List or on the Delaware Library Catalog. While these periodicals may not leave the library, articles may be photocopied for 10 cents per page. Interlibrary loan service is available for magazines or journals not owned by the libraries. Please consult with the library staff.

Library Computers

Computers are available for the purpose of providing access to library resources which support the academic and educational programs of the campus. These include the Delaware Library Catalog, online databases, links to Delaware's public and academic libraries, and Tech Topics. At the Wilmington campus, students and faculty have access to word processing, spreadsheet, database and e-mail programs as well. Most of the computers require login with college ID/password.

Internet

The four campus libraries of Delaware Tech provide access to the World Wide Web. By starting at the Delaware Tech Library home page, one can link to Delaware's academic and public libraries as well as government resources. Information may be printed at 10 cents per page.

Library Instruction Program

Wilmington Campus Library uses an online information literacy program, TILT (Texas Information Literacy Tutorial), which students must complete as part of their English courses. In addition, tours and demonstrations are available. Please contact library staff to make arrangements. Phone: (302) 453-3717 (Stanton) and (302) 573-5426 (Wilmington). There is also an online form to request library instruction sessions.

Distance Learning Services

Students who are enrolled in distance learning programs have full library privileges. Students should obtain a Delaware Tech ID card that has been validated for the current semester and bring it to the library for completion of the library registration process. If that is not possible, please contact library staff by telephone: (302) 573-5422 (Wilmington) or
(302) 454-3939 (Stanton). After library registration and verification of distance learning status, library staff will facilitate student requests for appointments with librarians, interlibrary loan needs, reference, and other services.

Reserves

Items may be placed on reserve for in-house use or overnight, 3-day, or 7-day checkout. Faculty must consult library staff to initiate this process. Allow 48 hours for materials processing before sending students. Students must bring valid Delaware Tech ID cards to check out reserves or use them in the library.

Other Services

Books and other media may be requested for library purchase. Contact library staff by phone at (302) 573-5422 (Wilmington) or (302) 454-3941 (Stanton) or complete the online form. Microfilm reader-printers, copy machines, and group study rooms are some of the other special services offered.
